Stand For The Silent

Did you know that every seven seconds a child is bullied? Seven seconds! I couldn’t believe that statistic. This is something that needs to stop, and you, yes YOU can be a part of something great to help. Want to know more? Keep reading.

The Stand for the Silent was founded in 2010 and has made a huge impact in its five years

We have been spreading our message that bullying and youth suicide must stop far and wide for over five years now. We hand out thousands of “I am somebody” wrist bands all over the world and have personally handed them to President Obama and first lady Obama, Lady Gaga, Oprah, and dozens of notable celebrities, but…the most gratifying is to hand one to a child that has been told that they don’t matter and to see them slowly realize that …they do.

On July 1, 2010 the Oklahoma state University-Oklahoma City upward bounds students decided to take a stand against bullying. They were inspired by Ty Field-Smalley’s story and wanted to do something for Ty and his family. Kirk Smalley, Ty’s dad came to speak to the students and that was the beginning of the movement. On July 11th, 2010 stand for the silent Facebook page was launched. As of today there are over 46,000 members. August 17th 2010 SFTS held a rally at Western Heights high school. Then on august 24th 2010, SFTS held a rally at the Oklahoma state capitol and around the world. There were at least 19 rallies in the U.S. 1 in Ireland, 1 in Spain, 1 in Africa and 2 in Australia. We went global with our message. SFTS is about students teaching students not to bully. It takes all of us teaching that bullying hurts and changes lives forever. 68 upward bounds students and a handful of adults decided to make a difference, to make a change, and to be a part of the solution. As of today we have presented to over 1,100 schools worldwide and spoken to over 1,120,000 kids.

The purpose of our organization is to raise awareness about the devastating effects that bullying and youth suicide has on kids and families. We have touched over a million kids and countless adults so far. We receive messages every day from kids telling us that we have saved their lives, and that their “I am somebody” wristband has not been taken off of their wrist since we gave it to them!

How can YOU get involved?

Anyone can start a chapter of SFTS in their area, spread our message, raise awareness! The information on how to start a chapter is near the bottom of our homepage on our website. Donations to help us continue are also always much needed and greatly appreciated!   http://www.standforthesilent.org
